Walk in The Close

Annual lecture – 9 November 2009,
by Sue Finniss & John Elliott

Summary

This year’s annual lecture was a delightful exploration of The Close with its many treasures seen through an artist’s eyes and presented with an artist’s enthusiasm. Sue Finniss and Dr. John Elliott have recently published their book “Salisbury A Walk in the Close”, a collection of 37 paintings by Sue with historical and art historical notes by John Elliott. The lecture traced the creation of this book and explained some of Sue’s techniques as well as her choices of subject.

Sue’s love for The Close goes right back to her Salisbury childhood and was reinforced by her time as a teacher student spent at the then Teachers Training College in The Close. “Throughout all these years I have never tired of the beauty of The Close”.

The result is a collection of paintings of exquisite atmosphere.
